Gorgeous Obsession’s owner/founder and director, Rachel Ngombe tells the story behind the boutique ... Here at Gorgeous Obsession we offer an extensive range of Make Up, Hair and Nail treatments all in an intimate and cosy boutique; the atmosphere here is like when you and your friends are getting ready to go out together. There’s just a great feeling of being able to be yourself! The team here have been hand-picked to help create this feeling – they are full of education and knowledge, paired with friendliness and passion. Their job is all about exciting, empowering and enriching the lives of the people who walk through our door. I embarked upon opening a boutique salon during the summer of 2012 to create something different in beauty. My 20 years of working with premium brands, developing staff and having a passion for making customers and the people who work for me feel great about themselves – Gorgeous Obsession is all about wanting to channel all of this into one area and bring a little of that retail buzz into the salon service environment. Every role in my career has led to this point. I worked at MAC for 12 years – 5 years initially on the shop floor as a make-up artist absolutely refined and embedded the importance and value of customer service to me. I then went on to develop MAC throughout Ireland and the UK in a Senior Management role for 7 years, managing over 20 locations and over 250 staff. This was a very special period of my life, a time which really developed me as an individual. Working at Lush next, for nearly 2 years, was such a great bit of fun! And, most importantly, I had the opportunity to work directly with their founder; it was incredibly interesting to operate inside a business where ethical values play a more prominent role than outright commercialism; I learned a lot. At St.Tropez, I was introduced to the world of the salon and it was here that I gained my appreciation for how special each and every one of them is – they are extensions of individuals, of people. My 3 years as a Sales Director saw the company progress through a private equity sale which is now owned by PZ. I restructured the sales field to ensure optimum support for both retail and salon operations as well as introducing salon workshops on how to grow your business. And, most recently, my experience as Head of Retail for Illamasqua for nearly 3 years was invaluable – it taught me how to really stand on my own two feet in the world of business, and introducing and growing a new cosmetic brand reawakened my passion for make-up.
